Draper Velopark Master Plan Approval

All I can say is SWEET!!!  This from the drawing of the master plan, this is going to be a "one-stop shopping" style of park. Velodrome, Criterium track, mountain bike area complete with pump track, skills course, and trails.  The best thing is that Draper is more centrally located. I can't wait!

The Draper City Council approved the Draper Velopark Master Plan last night. The Park is to be located near Corner Canyon just west of the Ballard Equestrian Center where there is currently a convergence of bicycle activity with mountain biking, road biking, and cyclocross. The Park will include a velodrome, criterium course, in-line skating, cyclocross, mountain bike zone, climbing wall, kid's park, and new trails. We are very excited to have the support of Draper City for this project and look forward to working towards construction.

Utah Velodrome update - Tour de 'Drome

Plans for a velodrome in the Ogden area are still moving forward.  There is now a charity ride to raise money for the future velodrome. 

The Tour de 'Drome is a benefit Bike Tour with proceeds going to the future Velodrome to be built as part of the Field House in Ogden, UT. Participants can choose routes from 28 to 105 miles AND we are also going to have a “Fun Ride” for the younger kids that still want to participate.

There are three routes, 28, 61, and 104 mile routes.  The ride will start on Saturday, May 1 at 9:00 from the Ogden Rodeo Grounds at 668 17th Street - where the historic velodrome once stood.   The $50 registration fee ($7.50 for the kids fun ride) will go towards the velodrome construction.  Your printed registration form will also allow you to ride the Frontrunner train from SLC to Ogden for no additional fee.

Utah Velodrome - not dead yet!

Just when I thought that my hopes of having a velodrome in Utah had come to an end, an article appears yesterday in the Salt Lake Tribune offering a new glimmer of hope.

To summarize, Draper has adopted a resolution supporting a velodrome at Lynn Ballard Ball Park, 13500 South 1500 East, South of Salt Lake City. This could be an outdoor velodrome, where the one under proposal in Ogden would be an indoor wood track.

"It's something I saw as an opportunity to bring to Draper that would fit well into the community," said Councilman Jeff Stenquist. "I see it also as an economic development opportunity because it would bring competitions from across the United States and beyond."

Draper City is in talks with the Utah Velodrome Association at this time to determine where funding for such a project would come.

Although there are no solid plans to build a velodrome in Utah yet. It is a positive note that there are now two cities in Utah that are considering, or have plans in the works to build a velodrome.

Update on the Utah Velodrome

One of my friends who lives in Washington commented on Facebook that he is excited about the velodrome coming to Eagle, Idaho since it will be the closest velodrome to his house.

That made me realize that I haven't checked on how the plans for a velodrome in Utah are progressing. I went to the Salt Lake Velodrome website and was greeted with this news:

We are excited to be able to share with you the conceptual floor plans for the Ogden Velodrome. The velodrome is going to be located within a multi-use facility that will also host an indoor archery range and tennis courts. The track is going to be a wood track and 250m long. The plans call for seating for approximately 2900 on the mezzanine level and also include concession areas and a pro-shop space. The final location has not be finalized but it will be located in downtown Ogden and close to FrontRunner.
