New Clif Bar Flavors

Here at Bike-Junkie Global HQ, we're always excited to hear when Clif announces a new bar flavor. This time, we have two.

Nuts & Seeds, and Berry Pomegranate Chia.

To me, the Nuts & Seeds is like their Crunchy Peanut Butter, only better. To the peanut butter, they added almonds, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. Sweet, salty, and delicious!

The missus was a big fan of the Berry Pomegranate Chia bar. The tangy bite of pomegranates and Cranberries combined with sweet strawberries, with some natural energy from the chia seeds.

Both bars were great!

Look for them wherever you find Clif bars.

Seasonal CLIF Bar Flavors are Here

Yes, it's that time of year again. CLIF Bar has released their seasonal flavors. Returning flavors Iced Gingerbread and Spiced Pumpkin Pie are joined by a new flavor, Pecan Pie.

How is the new flavor? The wife and I both tried the new flavor, and found it especially yummy. I'll bet throwing it into the microwave for a few seconds to warm it up, and serving it with a scoop of vegan ice cream would be incredible!

The flavors are available now, and you can find them in the normal places you find things like this. CLIF Bar is also giving 1% of sales to Protect our Winters, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fighting against climate change.

What is in this package? Well, you get 4 Clif Bars, a cool baseball cap, a couple of tire levers, and a shower cap.

Just kidding, it is actually a saddle cover so you don't have to ride home with a wet bum if you must park your bike out in the elements.

I guess it is a shower cap, after all...

Food Friday: Clif Bar - Gary's Panforte

Clif Bar turns 20 this month.

To celebrate that milestone, they are releasing a special limited-edition signature bar, Gary's Panforte. It is based on an 800 year old Italian recipe and inspired by Gary's earliest cycling adventres over Italy's Passo di Gavia.

Like almost all of Clif Bar's offerings, the bar is chok-full of organic fruits and nuts. It is also free of animal products (vegan friendly!).

How does it taste? Really good! I had no idea what panforte is, or what it is supposed to taste like. It tastes like a cross between gingerbread and fruitcake.  A deep, rich flavor. It is definitely up there with my favorite Clif flavors.

It will be available for a limited time starting this month.

Recycling Clif Bar Wrappers

I have never hidden my love for all things Clif, and I doubt that I am alone.

But, what to do with all of those wrappers? You want to be environmentally friendly (we're cyclists, after all) and keep additional waste out of our landfills.

Clif Bar has teamed up with TerraCycle to collect used energy bar wrappers - keeping them out of landfills. These wrappers will then be made to eco-friendly products. Also, $.02 from every wrapper will be donated to a nonprofit of your choice.

The process is simple. You sign up with TerraCycle, collect the wrappers and send them in (free shipping!), where they are upcycled into products from bags to park benches

Food Friday: My New Favorite Clif Bar Flavor

It tastes like a soft peanut brittle. The caffeine (50 mg, a first for Clif Bar) doesn't hurt when you need that little boost, either.

Food Friday: Clif Bar Seasonal Flavors

This year, the wife and I did most of our Christmas shopping from the comfort of our laptops. Therefore, we have had an almost daily visit from the Brown Santa for the past week.

The other day, I came home to find a present for me that was delivered by the Brown Santa.

The folks over at Clif Bar were kind enough to send me a box of their seasonal Clif Bar flavors. And since they were kind enough to send them, I figured I should return the favor and say some kind words about their bars.

Not that saying kind words will be difficult. I haven't met a Clif Bar that I don't like. Granted, some I like better than others - except for the liver and onion flavored Clif Bar (kidding, there isn't a liver and onion flavored Clif Bar - and please, please don't take this as a suggestion to make one).

Every year, Clif releases some seasonal flavors during the holiday season. This year, the flavors are Spiced Pumpkin Pie, Cranberry Orange Nut Bread, and Iced Gingerbread.

Out of the three, my favorite was the Iced Gingerbread.  It reminded me of a soft gingerbread cookie.  I resisted the urge to mold it with my fingers into a more gingerbread man shape.

Next favorite was the Cranberry Orange Nut Bread.  It is all of the things that are good about the ubiquitous loaves of bread that neighbors leave on your doorstep this time of the year, and none of the bad.  Delicious!

The last - and again, that doesn't mean that I didn't like it - was the Spiced Pumpkin Pie. It made me think of Thanksgiving.  I wonder how it would survive a few seconds nuking in the microwave for that "warm pumpkin pie" sensation? Mmmm....

If you haven't tried the seasonal flavors yet, go find some!  They won't be around forever.  Go visit them at http://www.clifbar.com/.

Happy Holidays!
